Money Grubber

2016 -- 21x9x13"

An almost-commission from the President of the Santa Fe Institute, who suggested the idea of a donation box which grabs the money out of people's hands, in homage to Claude Shannon's "Useless Machine":
A useless machine is a device which has a function but no direct purpose; it may be intended to make a philosophical point, as an amusing engineering "hack", or as an intellectual joke. Devices which have no function, or which malfunction, are not considered to be "useless machines". (wikipedia: useless machine)

Many thanks to David Krakauer for his confidence in my abilities,
and to Make Santa Fe for being there when I finally needed a laser cutter.
